“TOWN OF PRAYER”

In 2019, The God Seekers Movement purchased several territories and buildings in Aseri (Estonia). Ex-owners left 8 out of 9 properties in an abandoned state. Although we cannot afford to build yet, we began working without finances, people, and proper tools. Before starting a building process, Sergey and Olga Shydlovkiy’s family does cleanings and preparations with their own hands.

OUR TASKS:

1. MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS

Ex-owners left us 8 out of 9 properties in an abandoned state (part of properties were private and part were public). Public services obliged us to meet all the proper maintenance requirements they issued to ex-owners. Here are some of them:

  • to board up empty housess windows. Some people throw their garbage inside, and it may become a cause of fire. The total number of windows boarded-up was 200.
  • to remove dangerous stones from buildings to prevent them from falling down on people.
  • to remove the wreckage of a burnt storage shed from one of our territories.
  • to remove garbage from our territories. The total garbage removed was 5 tonnes (11 000 pounds).
  • to remove branches and wood around the water tower.
  • to board up a water tower door.

2. GENERAL CLEANING AND MOWING PREPARATIONS

We decided not only to meet the requirements but also to do a general cleaning of all territories. There are not enough workers and proper tools, but we do our best to improve the appearance of the property. For instance, we mow 2 hectares with an ordinary trimmer.

Here is the list of works we have done:

  • to trim overgrown bushes.
  • to remove stones and tree stumps from all the territories to make mowing possible.
  • to seal opened drain holes.
  • to install warning signs in dangerous areas.
  • to paint over the graffiti on walls.

3. SEASON WORK

Alongside all conscientious owners in Aseri, we take care of our property. We mow lawns and trim bushes in spring and summer, remove fallen leaves in autumn, and remove snow in winter.

4. BUILDING PREPARATIONS

In October 2021, we started major maintenance of the first building – the ex-primary school. Although there is not enough financial ability to build, we began dismantling works with our own hands.

5. PARTICIPATION IN TOWN CLEANING CAMPAIGNS

There is an Estonian tradition of the Annual May Cleaning. Our team participated in the campaign alongside locals twice, contributing to the town’s appearance.
